What to Expect When You Meet With Us
What to Expect When You Meet With Us
Thank you for your interest in meeting with Cordell Planning Partners. We sincerely look forward to sitting down with you, face-to-face, and discussing a customized estate plan to help you and your family protect your assets.
Anyone who attends one of our workshops is entitled to a free one-hour consultation for us to get acquainted. To make that time together as efficient and productive as possible, it will help if you can provide some brief background information before the actual meeting. When you schedule your consultation, you will receive a Personal Information Form which outlines the simple requests.
Our initial get-together is what we call a Vision Meeting™, because it is an opportunity for us to see the big picture of how you envision your future plans, along with the current arrangements you already have in place. The Personal Information Form is an essential first step in clarifying that vision.
Once we have a basic understanding of your goals and your family, Cordell Planning Partners can craft a personalized estate/health care plan that best meets your objectives and distinct priorities. During the Vision Meeting, you will have the opportunity to ask as well as answer important questions. Please be assured that everything we discuss will be in total attorney-client confidentiality.
The Information You Need to Provide
Please take a few minutes to complete your Personal Information Form prior to your consultation with us. Once we become more familiar with your financial situation, our attorneys will be much better equipped to offer you the best advice and options. In addition to helping us understand your needs and wishes, the information you provide is valuable in determining if any of the many estate, tax, or Medicaid qualification exceptions apply to you.
Some questions merely require yes/no answers, such as whether you already have a will or a Power of Attorney document in place. We also need to know a little about your physical assets and how you want to address them in your estate plans. In other words, by specifically designating which family members will inherit which of your possessions, you’ll spare them the pain and expense of a probate process when the time comes.
When developing a succession/inheritance plan, it also helps to consider your personal items which represent more sentimental value than monetary. You naturally want your prized things to be handed down to their intended recipients, so it is best to make your wishes known now, and ideally avoid family squabbles or hurt feelings later.
Who Should Attend the Consultation
When you come to the Vision Meeting, please bring along all key individuals who will be involved in your decision-making, or at least have them available by phone. It can be difficult for you to accurately explain later to your spouses, children, siblings, or other stakeholders what you learned and discussed in our meetings. Furthermore, if your loved ones want to be involved at the beginning of your planning process, it is much more efficient to have them at the first consultation, rather than in a separate follow-up meeting afterwards.
If you have not attended our free educational workshops, check to see when one is being offered near you. The valuable workshops describe the various asset-protection programs available to you and your family, all explained in terms that are easy to understand.
Regardless of your assets or income level, you need to have a comprehensive estate plan in place. The knowledgeable, experienced attorneys at Cordell Planning Partners will provide the best options, with the assurance that you remain in control and have access to your assets for the remainder of your life.
